A Contribution to Performance Analysis Approach of the IEEE 802.11 EDCA in Wireless Multi-hop Networks

چکیده
The IEEE 802.11e standard has been introduced to support service differentiation for wireless local area networks. In wireless multi-hop networks, the performance of IEEE 802.11e EDCA has to confront with some practical problems such as unsaturation traffic and hidden node problem. Hence, this problem has attracted numerous studies in recent years, in which several investigations use analytic model to evaluate the performance due to its accuracy aspect. However, the accuracy and complexity of analytical model depends on a range of assumed parameters. The complexity caused by the introduction of realistic conditions in wireless multi-hop networks is the major challenge of current studies in this field. To overcome this challenge, this paper proposes an analytical model which covers full specification of IEEE 802.11e EDCA. To reduce the complexity, the model is simplified by decomposing the problem in two models based on Markov chain that can be easily solved by numerical method. The proposed model is presented in the theoretical aspect as well as numerical results to clarify its accuracy. © 2015 Published by VNU Journal of Science. Many performance evaluations for IEEE 802.11distributed coordination function (DCF) have been previouslyreported in the literature. Some of them have clearly indicatedthat 802.11 MAC protocol has poor performance in multi-hopwireless ad hoc networks due to exposed and hidden nodeproblems. Although RTS/CTS transmission scheme mitigatesthese phenomena, it has not been successful in thoroughlyomit...

متن کاملPerformance Analysis of IEEE 802.11 in Multi-hop Wireless Networks
Multi-hop wireless networks provide a quick and easy way for networking when we need a temporary network or when cabling is difficult. The 802.11 Medium Access Control (MAC) plays an important role in the achievable system performance. There have been many studies on analytic modeling of single-hop 802.11 wireless networks but only a few on the analysis of multihop wireless networks. Furthermor...
متن کاملAn IEEE 802.11 EDCA Model with Support for Analysing Networks with Misbehaving Nodes
We present a novel model of IEEE 802.11 EDCA with support for analysing networks with misbehaving nodes. In particular, we consider backoff misbehaviour. Firstly, we verify the model by extensive simulation analysis and by comparing it to three other IEEE 802.11 models. The results show that our model behaves satisfactorily and outperforms other widely acknowledged models. Secondly, a compariso...
